These guys are kinda like the chief contemporary exponents of psych-rock in Denmark. I don't really see anything as experimental, robust or lacking-in-preciousness coming out of America, but the pastures are always greener on the other side [of the Atlantic].

Hanne Hukkelberg
Posted by Charlie YonderThis is sort of a companion piece to Alex's post. Like CocoRosie, I imagine that Hanne Hukkelberg enjoys the cacophony characteristic of demented children's toys as they find some kind of mutually destructive equilibrium.

CocoRosie - Werewolf
Posted by AJens Lekman - A Higher Power
Posted by Bogdan Gheorghe
The Jens Lekman show last night... magical! It makes for three Jens songs of the day today. One is A Higher Power. You've got to listen to this song 3 times in a row, it's that good.

The second is Pocketful Of Money which he performed without the band and had the audience whistling the melody... beautiful.

The other is a new song called New Directions, inspired by google maps directions :) It's a live recording, 'scuze the quality but it's unreleased so you're not going to get a better version:

Violent Femmes
Posted by Dave AriensGood morning everyone! There should be a rule in the music biz: every track must incorporate a xylophone. Wouldn't the world be a happier place?

The Finches
Posted by Charlie YonderAieee. Today I learned that the Finches broke up last month. When I listened to them I felt like we were all growing stronger, together, slowly and comfortably, even people who weren't listening to them, like leaves kissed by sunlight's travelling salesmen.
They continue to work on their other projects, PALMS and Roots of Orchis.

James - Laid
Posted by Dave AriensHello. It's spring time, and I'm feeling great! It reminds me of happiness and joy, what with all the birds fornicating with the bees and whatnot... So, in celebration of this wonderful season, I offer you:

Postal Service - Such Great Heights (Iron and Wine)
Posted by Dave AriensIt's hard being the only cool kid on the block... I'm Dave and I've agreed to keep this blog real. This means that you can filter out the crass noise of the other contributers and point your feed reader solely at my posts (if that's even possible). Anyway, talking trash is always good times.

The Return Of Longwave
Posted by AI am happy to hear that one of my all time favorite indie rock bands "Longwave" is currently in the studio recording a new album. Sadly, they are not working with producer Dave Fridmann, who produced in my opinion the band's best album to date "The Strangest Things."
Longwave - Wake Me When It's Over (The Strangest Things album)
Fleet Foxes
Posted by Charlie YonderSeeing as today is my first day on Furry Potatoes, I'm gonna recommend two songs.
This second one is a track called "Oliver James" by a Seattle act called Fleet Foxes, who manage to trot out the down-home folk sound without beating it to death. There is something about their use of reverb, and the unexpected winding turns of their compositions that suggests something more than a respectful nod to a genre.
I think this is something lacking in the American indie-rock landscape, where hacked-together rehashes be-speckle its otherwise lush growth as if scattered with the naivete of an immoderate toddler. Listen and love :)

Akron/Family
Posted by Charlie YonderThis is a track from the new album by Akron/Family, a clapping, singing psych-folk band from Pennsylvania. Almost their entire body of work makes me feel like I just regained consciousness on a tropical island, buried to the neck by tan Scandinavian children.
